‘Twas a fairly good day for fake internet points. Sometimes I wish that burner accounts displayed a ratio of Posts:Likes or just Total Posts & Total Points. That way we could all know who is superior to everyone else ;)
But really, I would like to know at least how many posts I’ve made. It’d probably be depressing to see....

Star data would be cool. Find the real COTD!
no I’m not bitter my 240 star post was overlooked yesterday for one with only 6.

The “Real COTD” has nothing to do with star count, although there can be a correlation.

Let the people choose! No longer shall the editors in their ivory towers dictate to us the best comments! Tear it all down!

I find that if you spend enough time on oppo/Jalopnik you become familiar with people who put up good posts; I hope it doesn’t result in another fake internet points thing. It leads down the slippery slope of people posting dumb shit because they think others will like it. I’ve done it before, too (usually framed by a Simpsons reference or something like that, but that’s because a lot of people understand these) but I don’t need another site where 75% of replies are people trying to get points by posting memes and “ayyy lmao” and other shit like that. I'm sure many of you can guess which social community/cesspool I am referring to.

I see your point. Does that already happen though? “Orloved, hahoireahrehrreh manuals, pretty sure that’s a Lambo, brown diesel wagons, etc.” Jalopnik is hive minded and exhaustively repetitive just like any other online community in my opinion.

It does happen often enough (like I said, I know I’ve been guilty of this myself, I at least try to contribute something meaningful, or at the very least something amusing that’s not a meme) I just feel there’s no need to potentially push it further in that direction and reward that hive-mind behavior.
I will concede that keeping a tally of stars is largely harmless to others and I wouldn't really mind it. As long as it doesn't turn out like r*dd*t (i.e. I'm going to subtract a star because I disagree with you) it should be okay.

This is my most starred post. Of all the comments I’ve made some stupid three word internet meme is what gets me the most stars...

Like I said, I’m not above it, and that was a perfect choice of meme for that situation (because that robber got fucked up). I’m saying we don’t need to encourage it anymore.
